Default A few random PvP and PvE ideas - look and comment

I decided to sit down and come up with a general list of things that I think could be improved/fixed with both the PvE and PvP aspects of the game. Some of these proposals may or may not have been beaten to death, but hopefully I'll add something new to the idea. Or maybe not.

Please note, I'm mostly a PvE player, have one "completed" (All mission/bonus) character, a mesmer, and a monk who's busy ascending right now.

1. Better Difficulty Scaling for PvE Missions.

Pretty self-explainitory, I think. Some of the missions are cakewalks, some aren't, but there's no flow between the two. For example, I feel there's a huge jump in difficulty from Iron Mines and Thunderhead. Not saying Thunderhead is that tough, but there's a big difference between the two. While we're at it, anyone else feel like the final mission was the easiest of the fire island missions?

I personally feel like the entire game could use a boost in the difficulty department all around, but that's unrealistic, methinks.

2. Ascension requirements for certain effects.

I'm going to get flamed horribly for this.

Set up infusion so you have to be ascended in order to use armor with that effect. Personal opinion: it's stupid that you don't need the extra powers of ascension to defeat the mursaat. After all, the game's storyline says that you need to have that extra power, or you're "throwing your life away." At this point, if you have no intention of going to FoW/UW, why bother with the desert beyond skills?

Another suggestion I heard was to make the mursaat untargetable if you weren't ascended, but that seemed a little extreme.

3. Faction is a joke.

Yeah, even a stupid PvE player knows that faction is a joke. I'm not in any way in favor of UAS, but faction is like a teenager asking for a car and getting a Barbie Dreammobile. Not only is it ineffective, but it's actually sort of insulting. My thoughts on Faction:

For the Arenas:
Increase kill reward to 25 per kill.
Increase battle win reward to 250 per victory. Add 50 to this total for each consecutive win. (300, 350, etc...)
Flawless Victory should double your faction point reward for that win.

For rated GvG:
Increase kill reward to 30 per player kill, 15 per hench/troop kill.
Getting a morale boost from the flag stand should net you some sort of faction.
Victory should result in a bigger faction reward: Not quite sure how much, since I don't GvG much.

For Tombs:
Increase kill reward to 35-40 per kill.

Not sure what else to do for Tombs, since I've never actually won a battle there. I know, I'm a newbie or whatever, but it's hard to do much of anyhing with a PUG in tombs, let alone try to find one with a mesmer. I do know that winning the Hall should have an ungodly faction reward with it.

So, with these changes, (And a priest INSIDE the arena zones) I think a person could realistically never PvE and still be effective in PvP. It's a benefit for us PvE players as well, IMO, because we won't have to deal with as many people rushing through missions and making it that much harder, just because they want to unlock skills/items.

Oh, and one more thing: make faction buyable.

4. Make the unique factor of a mission worth something.

Doing Riverside Province while avoiding the towers, while pretty easy, was actually a blast for me. It was one of the moments where I really did connect with the game world. My suggestion for that mission in particular is to change the bonus and make detection by a tower = major buffs for the White Mantle, closing gates, and the addition of some sort of "gatekeeper" boss to access the castle and the staff. At the very least, this will teach aggro techniques that you need for the later missions.

Anyone happen to notice that with all the talk about escorting the Ascalon refugees through the Shiverpeaks, we really didn't see them that much in the missions? WTF? Not to mention that we sort of abandoned Ascalon, even after we got our sweet demigodlike powers. Though, IMO, that's what the next expansion has in store.

With instancing, there's tons of things possible to make missions cooler in a lot of respects. While there's definitely some neat moments, I think that there's more that can be done with instanced areas, both in missions and out of them. More actual ambushes, etc. Vague, I know, but I also know I'm not the only one who feels this way.

5. Gambling.

Raise your hand if you played Diablo II!

With all the talk of inflation and such, I think that gambling would be an excellent "money sink" for rich players. This is how I envisioned it:

Add an extra merchant that sells these vague items: Sword, Axe, Hammer, Bow, Wand, Focus, Staff, and possibly Runes. I haven't worked out exact numbers for these items, but I think that around 1k per purchase would suffice.

After you buy the item, the game would basically "roll" a lvl 20-24 drop, with a 1% chance for a gold, 5% chance for a purple, 30% chance for a blue, and the remainder white. The type of item it is would be completely random, with all weapons/items possible.. Anything you find will also be unlocked for PvP, should you need it. I don't think this would flood the market, but I could be wrong, too.

Offer suggestions or flame away!

I'm kidding. I actually agree with almost all this. The only thing I'd like to comment on s the numbers you used on faction. I agree they should be slightly higher than they are now, but not quite as high as you've made some of them. Maybe double them from their current levels, but not much higher than that. Any more and faction would become equally a joke, just in the opposite way.

Then people would be saying "LOL stoopid n00bs! I gained 1000 XP off that last battle because we pwned them so bad!" (sorry about my proper spellings... I'm not very good with L33TSPEAK.)

When I came up with the numbers for Faction, I was shooting for a setup that would allow someone to start a PvP character, and unlock all skills/items in a decent amount of time. Not everyone wants to do PvE. All that said, the numbers are probably high. Chalk it up to frustration at the current system.
